SIGMA Consortium Highlights European Collaboration at ISPE 2026

4 September 2026

The SIGMA Consortium was pleased to participate in the 42nd International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology Annual Meeting, held in Milan, Italy, from August 29 to September 2, 2026. Under the theme “Unlocking the Power of Pharmacoepidemiology to Improve Patient Health,” the meeting brought together the global pharmacoepidemiology and real-world evidence community for scientific exchange, collaboration, and discussion.

With 15 member institutions across 10 European countries, SIGMA was well represented in Milan. Throughout the meeting, SIGMA members shared their expertise, connected with colleagues from across the field, and highlighted the Consortium’s collaborative approach to conducting robust, multi-country real-world evidence studies in Europe.

SIGMA at the meeting

SIGMA banners and materials were displayed at the DSRU, PHARMO Institute, and RTI Health Solutions booths, providing opportunities for attendees to learn more about the Consortium’s network, expertise, and access to European data sources. Members of the SIGMA Office and member institutions were also available throughout the conference to discuss potential research needs and opportunities for collaboration.

SIGMA-linked scientific work was featured in the poster “Applying Target Trial Emulation to an Active Safety Surveillance Study of Etrasimod in Ulcerative Colitis: Key Design Considerations.” Presented by Abigail Postema from PHARMO, with contributions from PHARMO, the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology - BIPS, Karolinska Institutet, and Pfizer, the poster illustrated how target trial emulation methods can support real-world safety surveillance.

Continuing the conversation

SIGMA thanks everyone who connected with its members in Milan, as well as the collaborators and presenters who contributed to the Consortium’s presence at ISPE 2026. The discussions and connections made during the meeting will support continued collaboration and the development of high-quality real-world evidence across Europe.
